  1. Extremely territorial indeed. This includes introducing new animals to the household. I got bad vibes from a Rottie and advised the owner against getting a new puppy her heart was set on. Within it’s 1st week the Rottie found it’s opportunity and attacked the puppy. A trip to the hospital wasn’t enough to save it.

  2. Parents got themselves a rott for my dad in their 70s heโ€™s a cuddle bug and wonโ€™t leave their side. He super friendly with all the family and they have made sure to super socialize him. Heโ€™s great with kids from 3 and up and doesnโ€™t bother anything. Just make sure you get a good breeder and take care of them! They will be sure to love you back.

    1. I had one, too. Him and his siblings had barely any of the stereotypes, and all of them had a deep love for children and the elderly

Mine was good with kids as young as 6 months and paid no mind to tail pullers and rocker throwers under six, but the closer you got to your teens, the less patience he had. He did love the town drunks though and would warn the entire town if he found anyone passed out in the snow refusing to leave them until someone who smelled like them got by

    2. The socialization part is very important for every dog but guard dogs in particular if you want them to be social. Cant take them enough with you. This with some decent obedience makes the perfect familymember and family guard in one ๐Ÿ™‚ Even when sweet they can turn guard mode ina heartbeat

    3. โ€‹@@WiebedeVries-o4xRotts aren’t guard dogs. They naturally are working dogs. You have to train Rotts to be guard dogs.

    4. @@nonamenothing4315 I dunno the history that well but i do know you do not need to train it in them ๐Ÿ˜‰ This i know for a fact and i have 5 had 5 rotts in total and all prooved that at one time or another. And even in there day to day things you can see it. When we got a son how they would walk in front of it.

  3. I will always have one. ALWAYS! But training a Rottweiler is not something you do when they’re young, it’s a regular thing for their whole life. Be responsible and you’ll be HEAVILY rewarded by these dogs.

    1. They still do their best work in training when trained early enough, if you start out right you May even be able to eliminate the add problem too. But in general I agree with everything said above, just wanted to add this tidbit

  4. 10 years living with my man Prince.Strangers get licks and hugs.I trained him to be respectful.BUT YOU BETTER MAKE DAMN SURE YOU ARE THE ALPHA.

    1. I requested so badly that I wanted rotweilers to my parents and they eventually agreed….
Everyone around me is just telling me not to bring this breed but i saw the guide and Positive comments like you and i am so motivated

    2. @@am_iconicitโ€™s not for first time dog owners, thereโ€™s things the media tells you that is completely wrong. You canโ€™t know everything unless youโ€™ve had one. The butterfly thing is wrong for my Rotty, he protects and heโ€™ll deprive himself of sleep to do so. They are very hard to handle and stubborn, one time he messed up his paw and we had no idea until we saw the blood on the floor, they have very high pain tolerance. Just things to keep in mind before getting one, they are working dogs and if they donโ€™t have a job donโ€™t get one, you need a reason to have one and โ€œjust to protect the houseโ€ is not a good enough reason. Iโ€™m not saying donโ€™t get one, just be careful.

    3. @@cvvsha Yea i got it already, its about 1 month and some days, and he is super cute!
ALSO, I taught him commands like sit, stay, look, hello, he is very smart puppy because i have heard that they learn it around 2months or something! He learned to too fast..
      And i think i dont regret anything…

    4. @@cvvsha Thanks for your concern tho…, I mean no one really cares abt any random person… But thanks for helping me:)

  5. My older brother had a super docile rottie. My dad was to visit my brother but he got stuck at work. So my dad said screw it, I’ll crawl in through the window and wait for him.

Unbeknownst to my father, my brother had invited him to meet his new rescue rottweiler named Sadie. My dad was not a fit man, so as he was half way into the window there was a Sadie staring at him right in the face.

She then proceeded to attack him with dog kisses.

    1. Yes I Agree With It’s NOT The Rottie It’s The Person Who Trains Them The Rottie Does Have To Be Socialised At An Early Age

  6. The Rottweiler at the end was like โ€œ please stop embarrassing me Iโ€™m gonna hideโ€

  7. That’s why you train the dog to not chase the mailman or birds. Most importantly, when you train the dog, every family member is present and practice the command as well. Letting the dog know where they fall in the family hierarchy.

    1. Come on, man. You took the words right out of my mouth. Who in there right mind would get a 130 lb dog and have no control over it. I agree with you 100%. Especially when it comes to the hierarchy. That’s how dogs operate. Who’s the ALPHA, and if you don’t let them know where they fall, they will place themselves right behind the ALPHA. You and I are tracking my friend. Those aren’t good reasons to own one of the best dogs ever.

  8. I had a Rottweiler and it was the BEST dog ever ! I use to have my daughters birthday parties and no problems with kids or grown-ups. I use to take her to dog parks and no problems with other dogs. I trained her from a early age and she even saved my life once.

    1. I agree my friend has a Rottweiler and he has parties and even takes him to the gym and he loves all the attention he gets๐Ÿฅฐ

    2. A well raised Rottweiler is amazing. They’re highly reliant on communication, though, and if you don’t socialize them and don’t regelurly confirm that you understand them they can cause a lot of harm well before you can make it over to scold them

    3. What command did you train her. I have a 3 month old puppy and i’m quite scare and confuse of what to do because this is my first time

    4. @ryangornyย  I went on a hike with my daughter and she climbed a very tall dirt wall we were walking up a creek and she took off. I didn’t hear here leave. She came back as I was climbing up the side I grabbed her collar and pulled her down the side. I checked her paws for thorns or a cut from glass. I told my Dad what happened and he said that Dog just saved your life. He said he knew that Dog and she would of never left are side unless there was a bear, or bobcat that it chased away. So that is why I say it saved are lives.

  9. So many people in these comments going, “but my rottie is a sweetheart”. Guys, that’s a you thing. Not a rottie thing. You raised the dog right. Most dog newbies don’t have what it takes to turn their rottie into a cuddle-buddy.

    1. Youre forgetting that Rottweilers adapt to their owners. So they teach themselves. Bruh. ๐Ÿ˜‚

    2. Ppl forget that they are naturally affectionate dog breeds to their owners but will do anything to protect their owners so ofcourse they would be aggressive to a stranger, that’s what gaurd dogs do

    3. We had a rottweiler – labrador mix he passed away 2 moths ago now we have a Rotweiller puppy hes 3 and a half months old and hes already a bit of a cuddle boy but sometimes he gets his puppy instincts and wants to play and with that playing comes the play biting but as he grows thatl go away

    1. Same. Ours is highly attentative to slight differences like an unfamiliar car door shutting at the neighbor’s house across the way; steadily patient in waiting to see how things play out.

    2. my presa canario x gsd watches out the window and gets all mad if someone passes.
we’re on the 3rd floor and there’s a garden then a 10ft wall, THEN the main road where these people are walking, and she’s like ‘YOU MAY NOT PASS!’
she’s sweet as pie when she meets people though

  10. My friend’s 130lb Rottweiler must be the exception; super chill with visitors & out in public, strong enough to pull a wheelchair if needed but gentle enough to pick items off the floor, & focused enough to work as a service dog AND compete in high level obedience. The complete Rottie! ๐Ÿถโ™ฅ๏ธ

    1. This is how they are as a breed. Have a lot of experience with them. They are one of the best breeds.

  11. When I was a baby, my mom had 2 fully grown rottweilers, Leiah was 3 years old, and Kess was 4. 130-140lbs of dog. However, my mom had stories of these two sleeping in my cot with me. They were very protective of me and my brother when we were little, but while theyd growl and snap at strangers that got a little too close, theyd never actually hurt a fly if someone came over and mom told them to behave, theyd immediately return to puppy mode and be loveable lumps. Miss you both โค

  12. As someone who has had 2 Rottweilers as a kid from when I was born Iโ€™ve loved having my dog and I would never think about getting a different breed. Lotโ€™s of people are afraid to get them because of their history but they can be fun, loving, crazy and big sooks a lot of the time 99.9% of the time up to 100% of the time
Any way this is my opinion

  13. My 15 week old is very focused and she already had about 10 commands she follows. I’m no dog trainer but she’s smart, receptive and loyal.
